Read: Ecclesiastes 12:8-13
Solomon’s conclusion of all his searching is this:
That’s the whole story. Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty.
Ecclesiastes 12:12
Pretty simple, isn’t it? In all his searching and trying different paths to find meaning in life, in the end he determined that to fear God and obey his commands is the best we can do. And in this, we will find all the meaning we are looking for. It is in this that the core longings of our hearts will be met.
Are you looking in all the wrong places for meaning and fulfillment? What about returning to the basics? Fear God and obey his commands. Scripture tells us that “his commands are not burdensome.” In the first letter of John, he writes it like this:
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too. We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey his commandments. Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome. For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
1 John 5:1-5
And that is definitely the secret to finding meaning in life.
